Spending a “Memorial” Weekend in New York City

Nothing beats spending a weekend holiday in Manhattan followed by pleasant weather and a long list of things to do over two days. The crowds were intense, although the same could be said of most beaches during the Memorial weekend.  Best part was not having to get into your car or hop on the train to get back home after a long day of visiting the Met, watching a musical, dining and drinking.   If you are looking to plan a short weekend getaway here is what we managed to do….

20 Inspirational Quotes to Make You Want to Travel

Inspirational quotes are my go-to when I need a bit of motivation to get my butt off the couch and to start planning.  The toughest part of traveling is getting started by making those plans early on amid hectic days of grinding work and demands on your personal life.  While there are tons of inspirational quotes, the ones that resonate most are those that inspire me to travel and open my mind to discovering and learning new things….

A Review of The Annual Travel and Adventure Show; Formerly New York Times Travel Show

Surprised to learn that The New York Times after 17 years is no longer the sponsor of this iconic travel show that is so much a part of the industry.  A sign of how the global pandemic has impacted the travel industry faced with back-to-back years of a downturn economy trying to recover.  No surprise that the show has plenty of sponsors who want to carry on with what attracts over 30,000 attendees every year. This year’s show was scheduled in March instead of January when folks generally are planning their travels.   Needless to say, COVID has broken many routines in our lives that we are adjusting to with more to come. …

Traveling in Turbulent Times ….What You Need To Do Differently

January is practically gone and COVID is still dominating the news and affecting our plans to resume a normal life.  Omicron, while slightly peaking in some states and countries, has limited all forms of travel both domestically and internationally with new confusing restrictions.  We are all itching to jump on a plane to leave behind our homes and away from freezing weather. In the northeast, we have been consistently experiencing below 20-degree temperatures.  The month of February can be just as tough, causing cabin fever among many of us who yearn for a warm, breezy sunset on a beach…

A Bucket List Journey through Coastal California

Itching to travel but not quite ready to head out internationally, I decided to travel domestically and check off a long-desired bucket list trip. I have visited California many times over the last 30+ years, mostly short business and leisure trips, however nothing as lengthy as a road trip through the northern and southern California coastline. Check out what this journey is all about….

Spending the 4th of July Weekend in New York City

With a forecast of a rainy weekend, my sister and I skipped the beach and decided to hangout in Manhattan. It was nice to see New York swing back to it’s Pre-Covid days.   We were able to book a hotel at a decent price within the Broadway district, in part because the theaters are mostly closed until the fall. We made plans to visit the Musuem of Moderan Art, Hudson Yards, the High Line and the Chelsea neighborhood to both shop and eat……

Buying Travel Insurance during COVID

Planning a bucket list trip soon? I am! If you are, you may want to check your annual travel policy or the box you check off when purchasing an airline ticket to make sure the policy covers COVID since not all companies provide this coverage. Vaccines are 88%-90% effective which means you can still catch the virus while traveling and wind up in a hospital although its fair say you won’t die … that’s the good news. The bad news…..

What You Need to Know When Traveling Post Pandemic

I recently started to travel domestically and noticed how crowded the airports are becoming. Airport security lines including the TSA PreCheck program I subscribe to are experiencing long lines. I also noticed the recent installation of CLEAR stations at several airports, a privately held security service that allows you to skip to the front of the security line much faster that the TSA PreCheck program. I decided to explore whether this would be a worthy investment as well as checking to see that all of my required travel documents for both domestic and international flights are updated.
